malay
Malay, or bahasa Malaysia, is a language spoken in Malaysia, Singapore and Brunei and is closely related to Indonesian. It is written with Latin (Roman) letters. Christianity was introduced to Malacca by Catholic Portuguese in 1511, and later Protestant Dutch and then British evangelical missionaries. The first part of the Scriptures to be translated into Malay was a Gospel of Matthew printed in 1612. Most Malay speaking Christians are evangelical Protestant, or Catholic. Bible work is done by the Bible Society of Malaysia (Pertubuhan bible Malaysia), which dates back to 1815. Alkitab Berita Baik (Today’s Malay Version, TMV) was printed in 1987, and revised in 1996 as the Revised Malay Bible, and again in 2001. Malay is similar to Indonesian.
