kinyarwanda

Kinyarwandan, also called Rwandan, Rwanda or Ruanda, is an African language spoken by about ten million people mainly in Rwanda in central Africa. It is written in Latin (Roman) script. It is spoken by the ethnic groups of Hutu and Tutsi. Part of the Scriptures were first translated into Kinyarwandan in 1914, the New Testament was published in 1931 and the Kinyarwandan Bible (Bibliya) first printed in 1954. Kinyarwanda speaking Christians are Catholic and evangelical Protestant. Bible work is done by the Bible Society in Rwanda. An interconfessional version was produced in 1989 as the Bibliya Yera. A revised edition of the Bible was produced in 2001.
