Gujarati, also spelt Gujerati, is an Indian language spoken by about forty six million people mainly in the Gujurat state of western India. Gujarati is evolved from Sanskrit. It is written in Gujarati script which is a form of Devanagari. Part of the Scriptures were first printed in Gujurati in 1809, the New Testament in 1820 and the full Bible was printed in 1823. An edition was printed in 1923 known as the Old Version (OV). Most Gujurati speaking Christians are Catholic or evangelical Protestant. Bible work in Gujurati is done by the Bible Sociey of India.
