german
German, or Deutsch, is spoken mainly in Germany and Austria, but also in Switzerland. German is printed in Latin (Roman) script but formerly used Gothic script. The classic German translation of the Scriptures was translated by Martin Luther and printed in 1534 (Die Bibel). Luther put the New Testament books in his own Lutheran order, and placed the Apocrypha (deuterocanonical books) between the Testaments. The Bible was revised as the Luther Ubersetzung in 1984. German speaking Christians are found in Catholic and evangelisch (Protestant), mainly Evangelical Lutheran, communities. Bible work is done by the German Bible Society (Deutsche Bibelgesselschaft) based in Stuttgart. Die Gute Nachricht (German Common Language or Today’s German Bible) was produced in 1983 and revised as Gute Nachricht Bibel in 1997.
