Estonian Bible
Old Testament is an old version and the New Testament is a revised version. Published by the Finnish Bible Society in 1991.
Estonian (eestil keel) is spoken by over a million people in the Baltic state of Estonia, also called Estland, and is closely related to Finnish. It is written in Latin (Roman) letters. Christianity did not come to Estonia until the thirteenth century. The Scriptures were first translated into a northern dialect of Estonian and published in 1715. The whole Bible (Piibel) of Anton thor Helle was printed 1739. Estonia regained independence from the Soviet Union in 1991. Most Estonian speaking Christians are Protestant, mainly Evangelical Lutheran, with Orthodox and Catholic minorities.
Bible work is done by the Estonian Bible Society, and formerly by the Finnish Bible Society.
